Rectangular makeup box, or patchbox, made of Chinese lacquer panel, very fashionable in the 18th century. It opens thanks to a hinge onto three small compartments, two covered and one for placing the brush. The lid is dark with a mirror. The “coral” colored lacquer has decorations of animals and pagodas. The frame and the pusher are in gold. Two gold diamonds adorn the small internal lids, in tortoiseshell. The brush is also in tortoiseshell.

If the use of flies was already known in the 17th century in France, it was in the 18th century however that they would become the symbols of adornment and femininity. Under Louis XV, their use changed and coquetry was the order of the day.
