Barbedienne letter opener, Constant Sévin, Attarge 1873

The history of jewelry

The repertoire of ornaments used, Venus and nymph, putti, ram's head, fruit and plant fragments, foliage and cut leather, is typical of the French Renaissance, in the style of the Fontainebleau school. We are talking here about a neo-Renaissance style.
Barbedienne, Sévin, Attarge, is one of the major associations of French bronze art in the 19th century. Maison F. Barbedienne (active between 1838 and 1954) is the main French foundry of bronze art.
